Charotar bank accused of selling NRI’s plot illegally
Yet another skeleton from the closet of the Charotar Peoples’ Cooperative Bank in Anand has tumbled out with an NRI accusing the bank officials of selling off his plot without informing him. The Anand District Court on Thursday has directed a DSP-level enquiry into the alleged illegal sale of a plot leased to an NRI by Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation, Vidyanagar. The bank also known as Charotar Nagarik Sahakari Bank Limited is now under liquidation since 2003 following the scams worth crores of rupees by its trustees,According to a petition filed by Anand-based businessman Hitesh Patel on behalf of British national Jagadish Patel, who is originally from Vidyanagar district, the NRI had set up a printing press on a 3360-sq ft plot in 1982 (presently valued at Rs 7 crore) leased to him by the GIDC. In 2002, when Patel could not repay the loans he had taken from the Charotar Bank for his venture, he mortgaged the printing press to the bank.

In the morning of 28/9/09 the celebration of “Dashera”, “Saraswati Sanman”, “Elocution” and cultural program has been held in which a lamp manifestation has been done by elders and prayer has been presented by Hinal Chopada.The welcome speech has given by Minister Sri Arvindbhai Pokar. In the cultural program prayer presented by Sriket Dhodu, a song sung by Hetvi pokar, Lacture by Dhairaya and dance presented by sriman dhodu, Drasti Pokar, Kajor Ghoghari, Ankita Chopada, Binal Bhagat,Kajal Mavani, Bhumika Halpani,Zinkal Bhojani,Pakak Bhojani,Krunal Shegani,Devanshi Pokar,Abhiram Pokar and Sruti Shenghani.Jockes Presented by Karma Dhodu,Rajkumar Bhagat,Deep Mukeshkumar and Bansri Makani. Shree Umiya Mataji’s 18th silver anniversary mahotsav
Held in the year 1976, the 18th century mahotsava completed the 25 years and there were thoughts of celebrating the silver anniversary. But it was unanimously decided to celebrate it in samvat 2066 magshar Sud 11 to magshar sud 15 dated 28/11/2009 to 02/12/09. In this Mahotsava it’s planned to organize hundred Chandi maha yagya.
Once again striving towards the pranpratistha for bringing a new life into the statue is offcourse a religious thing but also a great idea to bring together the entire kadva patidar community once again. The patidars from across the world shall throng the temple and approximately 40 to 50 lac people are expected to arrive for the mahotsava.
The income generated shall be spent for the welfare of the society. Currently we are not able to contribute much to the various social services as desired, but there shall be improvement therein. Till date lot of care was given to the girl’s education and hence it seems the boys education suffered. Now efforts shall be made to inculcate education amongst the boys also. At many place in Gujarat there are plans to develop character education. There are plans for agriculture development cells also. To keep the society free of bad habits, maintain cultural heritage and dignified upkeep of the old people shall be the main concern. To lend help in the business development plans of needy and deserving shall also be planned.
To bridge the gap between the community members staying in the cities and the villages is also on the cards.
This way, the idea behind the silver jubilee celebration is to see that the community keeps pace with the developments of the 21st century and can represent itself with pride in the society.
The kurmi community people staying at M.P, Rajasthan and also U.P shall also be brought closer to the others. The impact of Ma Umiya is spreading far and wide to the far flung areas like U.P, Bihar, Orissa and Nepal also. All the people should come together under the auspices of Ma Umiya and earn success should be our endevour. For that there is also a plan to take a ‘Jyotirath’ across these places. This will lead to increased brotherhood and togetherness.

On 4/10/2009 the day of ‘Sarad Purnima’ in presence of President Sri Devaji Karamshi Ukraine , the brilliant’s honor program has been held in conscious and an educated village Gadhsisa Navavas Patidar Society. Vachanamrut – His Word, Our Life UK National Sanyukta Mandal Shibir 2009, London, UK
A national Sanyukta Mandal one-day shibir was held in the presence of Pujya Doctor Swami on Sunday 27 September 2009 at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, London. Over 1,240 members of the Sanyukta Mandal eagerly arrived to learn more about the Vachanamrut – the theme of the shibir.
Following the opening video, a live procession enacting a scene from the time of Bhagwan Swaminarayan introduced the Vachanamrut and its compilers to the delegates, providing a lively opening to the event. After the traditional deep pragatya, Prabuddhamuni Swami discussed the aims and objectives of the shibir, after which Amrutvihari Swami explained how the Vachanamrut contains the essence of the Hindu scriptures. Yogvivek Swami later spoke of the historical and current relevance of the Vachanamrut, before which Pujya Doctor Swami elaborated further about the spiritual teachings of the Vachanamrut.

With the express wishes of Pramukh Swami Maharaj in 2004, annual student conventions (vidyarthi shibirs) have been organised to provide students with the skills, confidence and support to succeed academically through a foundation rooted in spiritual principles. Thus, over 130 kishores and kishoris from across the UK arrived on the evening of Friday 25 September 2009 for the annual Vidyarthi Shibir, in the presence of Pujya Doctor Swami.
Pujya Doctor Swami inaugurated the opening session with the traditional deep pragatya, before stressing the importance of developing one’s personal Satsang while progressing in the academic sphere. A motivational video provided an insight into the principles underlying the success of famous personalities as well as the importance of setting a goal. In the next session, the delegates participated in a group exercise that focussed on strengthening their team-working abilities.
The second day began with an opportunity for the students to perform abhishek of Shri Nilkanth Varni, with the kishores singing kirtans before the murtis after shangar arti. Following samuh puja and morning Vachanamrut reading, the focus moved to exploring the power within each delegate and methods of introspection, on which Pujya Doctor Swami provided further guidance. The practical learning continued with each group participating in a debate on current issues. The afternoon was reserved for outdoor activities, including paintballing, bowling and ice-skating. Each attendee had an opportunity for a one-to-one discussion with trained mentors from the Education Department, and attended workshops tailored to their education level, which reinforced their revision and exam techniques. The final session of the day was a selling skills workshop where each group had to secure funding for their product from a panel of investors.
The final day began with Pujya Doctor Swami highlighting the discipline and conduct of an ideal student through a speech and further questions. A panel interview on overcoming the barriers to success followed with sadhus and senior karyakars answering questions from the floor. Sadhus narrated incidents of kishores who have attained success in their academic and working lives by following the guidance of Pramukh Swami Maharaj. Monsoon situation grim but GDP to grow at over 6%: FM
Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has officially declared 161 districts as drought-prone and said the government would take the necessary steps to fight the situation. “We have a contingency plan in place to fight the weak monsoon,” he said.
Mukherjee said that while the overall kharif sowing was down by 20%, major agricultural states like Punjab and Haryana were not severely hurt by the weak rains and made up for it via groundwater use.
The finance minister also spoke on concerns that this would affect India’s FY10 growth and added that he saw FY10 GDP growth above 6%. “We are also confident on surpassing the FY10 direct tax target,” he said.

North Korean ship detained off Andaman | Patel Samaj
CHENNAI: The Coast Guard on Thursday detained a ``suspicious'' North Korean ship, which had dropped anchor off
Hut Bay in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, after more than six hours of high drama that ended with Indian sailors
firing in the air. Officials of Army intelligence, Intelligence Bureau and other agencies are set to inspect the ship and interrogate its occupants. ( Watch )
K R Nautiyal, DIG, Coast Guard, Andaman and Nicobar Region, told TOI over phone that ``several things were amiss'' about merchant vessel MV Musen, which later declared that it was carrying 16,500 tonnes of sugar from Thailand to Umm Qasr in Iraq. ``She shouldn't have dropped anchor here in the first place, she didn't respond to our signals, and her log book was found to be vague,'' Nautiyal said.
North Korean ships have often been found to be involved in ferrying nuclear and missile components for regimes clandestinely seeking to acquire such arsenals. Early on, it was a recipient of clandestine transfers of weapons technology and materials from China. It has since emerged as a major source of proliferation; its alleged clientele include Pakistan, Syria, Iran, and now, Myanmar.

Musen had dropped anchor off Hut Bay island on Wednesday afternoon for which it had no permission. When Coast Guard ship Kanakalatha Barua approached it, Musen tried to escape, forcing coast guard men to fire in the air. The ship finally ``obeyed'', and was brought to Port Blair early on Thursday.
``We got to know about the ship around 3pm and immediately sent our Dornier. The aircraft flew low above the ship and the port office tried to contact the ship through channel 16, the international VHF used in such cases, but Musen refused to respond. We then sent our ship, which reached the spot around 9pm. As the ship approached, Musen tried to move out. We opened fire twice in the air and only then did Musen obey our orders.
The ship, with 39 people on board, has been brought to Port Blair,'' Nautiyal said.
Indian authorities are also investigating an unscheduled stop the vessel, which left Taem Chabang port in Thailand on July 27, made at Singapore on July 30. ``The vessel started from Singapore on July 31, but no passport stamping was done in Singapore. We are probing this angle too,'' Nautiyal said.
Preliminary inspections found that the vessel was carrying sugar. A detailed inspection will be carried out on Saturday by high-level intelligence officials.
The ship's captain, who had no answers to why he did not respond to coast guard alerts, later told the investigators that the ship, which was bound for Iraq, had made an impromptu change in schedule to take the cargo to Kakinada. ``Merchant vessels do change course sometimes, but there is no satisfactory explanation in this case,'' a coast guard officer said.
However, Interocean, the Delhi-based agent of the ship in India, told TOI that Kakinada was not a port of call for MV Musen on this voyage. ``We came to know about the ship heading towards Kakinada only from the Coast Guard, that too after it was detained. We did not have prior information,'' an Interocean spokesperson said.

Musen had dropped anchor off Hut Bay island on Wednesday afternoon for which it had no permission. When Coast Guard ship Kanakalatha Barua approached it, Musen tried to escape, forcing coast guard men to fire in the air. The ship finally ``obeyed'', and was brought to Port Blair early on Thursday.
``We got to know about the ship around 3pm and immediately sent our Dornier. The aircraft flew low above the ship and the port office tried to contact the ship through channel 16, the international VHF used in such cases, but Musen refused to respond. We then sent our ship, which reached the spot around 9pm. As the ship approached, Musen tried to move out. We opened fire twice in the air and only then did Musen obey our orders.
The ship, with 39 people on board, has been brought to Port Blair,'' Nautiyal said.
Indian authorities are also investigating an unscheduled stop the vessel, which left Taem Chabang port in Thailand on July 27, made at Singapore on July 30. ``The vessel started from Singapore on July 31, but no passport stamping was done in Singapore. We are probing this angle too,'' Nautiyal said.
Preliminary inspections found that the vessel was carrying sugar. A detailed inspection will be carried out on Saturday by high-level intelligence officials.
The ship's captain, who had no answers to why he did not respond to coast guard alerts, later told the investigators that the ship, which was bound for Iraq, had made an impromptu change in schedule to take the cargo to Kakinada. ``Merchant vessels do change course sometimes, but there is no satisfactory explanation in this case,'' a coast guard officer said.
However, Interocean, the Delhi-based agent of the ship in India, told TOI that Kakinada was not a port of call for MV Musen on this voyage. ``We came to know about the ship heading towards Kakinada only from the Coast Guard, that too after it was detained. We did not have prior information,'' an Interocean spokesperson said.

The information that was relayed by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) to the state authorities was that terror elements would attempt to strike at the international players as they did against Sri Lankan cricketers in Pakistan recently.
Top-ranked badminton players are scheduled to take part in the World Championships slated to be held at Gatchibowli from August 10 to 16. As of Friday, over 200 players from all over the world and their support staff have already arrived.
Following the specific threat, security teams have fanned across the entire area. “Special teams with metal detectors and sniffer dogs have been placed at various points. Security has been strengthened at the four venues where the players are staying and armed escorts will be present when the players go from their hotels to the stadium. Special armed teams will also accompany the players when they go shopping,” sources told TOI.
The threat of a strike at the international sporting event came a day after intelligence inputs suggested that Lashkar operatives may target Hyderabad, New Delhi and Kolkata around Independence Day. About five Intelligence Bureau officials in three batches grilled the championship organizers for about an hour on Thursday and for more than two hours on Friday.
Sources told TOI that the IB officials have confirmed a ‘specific’ Lashkar-e-Taiba threat to the championship and enquired if the organizers had received any threat calls from Pakistan. “They told us they had specific information about some threatening calls from Pakistan. They even showed us some phone numbers and said that these numbers had received calls from Pakistan. We were asked to give the details of all the phone calls we received in the last few days,” one official involved with the Championship told TOI.
The intelligence officials have collected details of about 500 foreign players and officials who will be arriving for the championship.
“We told them that we are working closely with the police and we have even taken the help of an Australian security agency. But they told us they have nothing to do with the police and collected all details about the teams, their practice schedules etc. They gave us specific instructions and said that they will keep a close watch on the Championships,’’ the official said.

Doc, chemist with H1N1 battle for life | Patel
PUNE/NEW DELHI: As swine flu cases across the country rose,an
ayurvedicdoctor and a chemist infected with the H1N1 virus were battling for their
lives on Friday in Pune, the city from which the first flu fatality was reported.
Both the doctor and the chemist are on the ventilator.
Across India, 96 new cases were confirmed taking the total number
of flu patients to 171. Alarmed by the spurt, the Union health ministry on Friday
decided to allow private hospitals and labs with bio-safety level-II to conduct
swab tests but only if these had isolation wards where positive cases could be
quarantined. These private facilities are also required to have a real-time PCR,
the gold-standard test to detect H1N1. Health authorities also directed fliers in
high-risk groups, such as senior citizens, pregnant women and heart patients, to
wear masks at all times during the journey.
On Friday, Mumbai also reported its first flu-positive case - a school student.
While school authorities denied the student had swine flu, health officials confirmed
the case. The school will be shut from Monday.
In Pune, the 36-year-old doctor, who had been suffering from an upper respiratory
tract infection (URTI) for a week, went to the Naidu government hospital to get his throat
swabs taken. According to the doctor's brother, authorities at Naidu hospital did not take
his throat swab following which he went to a private hospital. When he started complaining
of breathlessness on Wednesday, the hospital, suspecting it to be a case of swine flu, sent
his swab for testing to the NIV on Thursday. The report, which was received early on Friday,
showed that he was H1N1 positive.
The 35-year-old chemist from Hadapsar, who tested positive for the flu and was admitted
to the Sassoon hospital on Thursday night, was said to be showing signs of improvement. He was
brought to the hospital in a critical condition, medical superintendent Pandurang Pawar said.
A six-year-old girl, who also tested positive for swine flu at a private hospital, was shifted
to Sassoon hospital later in the evening. Her condition was stable, said Dr Pawar.
Ten people with whom the chemist came in contact over the past few days have been quarantined
and under observation. Most of them are the chemist's relatives. Eight of them have been quarantined
at home while two are at Sassoon hospital.
The hospital has just two ventilators and has requisitioned for six more. Dr Pawar said he
had enough Tamiflu tablets but has still asked for 5,000 more.
